K. Brunini Jewels x Geoff Ragatz
For the K. Brunini Jewels project, the post-production centered on capturing the raw, organic spirit that Katey Brunini is known for. Her work is famous for its "wearable art" philosophy, often mixing traditional precious metals and stones with unexpected, primal elements like bone, wood, and twigs. The challenge was to polish the images for a high-end commercial look without losing the earthy, textured soul of the jewelry.
I focused on the interplay between the rough-hewn textures of the metal and the brilliance of the gems. In Brunini’s pieces, the metal often mimics natural forms, like the signature "Twig" or "Vertebrae" motifs, so I had to be careful not to over-smooth the surfaces. I manually cleaned up distracting studio reflections and hotspots on the gold and silver, but kept the characteristic pits and grooves that give her work its hand-crafted, "nature-made" feel.
